The Department of English of Shift I & II in association with IQAC conducted a National Level FDP, on ‘Language through Literature' for the Professional development of Professors during the Silver Jubilee Year 2021-2022. This Five day Faculty Development Programme was organized by Prof. Indhumathy ,Head of the Department of English, Shift I and Prof Subhashini Vice Principal & Head of the Department of English, Shift II, from 4TH October to 8TH October 2021. Prof. G.Pradha of Shift I and Prof.P.Femina of Shift II were the Convenor and Co-Convenors of the Programme. Prof.Alamelu Janaki and Prof.Janani hosted the Programme. The Vice Principal of Shift I Dr. G. Gayathri felicitated the event.
Around 72 Faculty members of various Colleges registered the Programme. The Induction started with 52 Participants from all over the Nation. Prof. Alamelu hosted the event. The Event started with a Prayer by Prof Femina. Prof. Indhumathy delivered the Welcome address. Prof.Pradha, Prof.Janani Prof.Prabhu, Dr.Britto introduced the Resource persons for the five Days. The Resource person Dr. Ravibalan, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of SIVET inaugurated the event with his laudable lecture on the Topic “Capacity building in Higher Education” on 4th October2021. The Second day of the FDP was initiated by Mrs. S.Supriya, Assistant Professor of English, SIVET College. She reinstated the need on the “Relevance of studying Language and Literature as a subject in the present Scenario”. The Session enriched with 44 Participants. The Third day and the Fifth day were Lectures on “Communication Skills for Professional Development & Decision making for Life Skills Development” delivered by Mrs.S.Lalitha, Assistant Professor of English of Govt.Polytechnic College in Daman. The Fourth day lecture on “Fundamentals of Research in Literature” was delivered by Mrs. R.Nandhini, Assistant Professor of English, SIVET College. The Programme successfully ended with Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr.Britto Jenobia. The programme received positive Feedback from the Participants and E certificates were provided.
To enhance the learning process in the Twenty fifth Academic Year 2021-2022 , the Department of English organised an Internal Workshop on Employability skills from 14th to 16th September 2021. Mr.Prasanna Venkateshwaran, the founder of ELTAC Services presented audio visuals on the fundamental skills essential for Employability, Resume writing, negotiation skills and Presentation skill. Only 60 participated in th event.
Gloria 2019 was conducted on 19th December and for the third time our Department students won the FIRST Prize in Christmas Carol Singing Competition.
The department of English - ELITE LORE English Association had conducted a One Day Workshop on 26thAugust at Fr. K.C. George S J Memorial Hall. The topic was “The Art of Storytelling Training”. Mrs. H.Banumathy, a professional Storyteller and Trainer, Fables N Tales was the Guest of Honour. She shared her expertise on the importance of Storytelling, various types and structure of stories which has been a great inspiration for the students.She trained the students by conducting activities on Voice modulation, Gestures, Body language of the characters for storytelling. She also emphasized the Visualization techniques used to describe stories. Students of the English Department were so inquisitive and actively participated in the Storytelling Workshop by presenting their interesting stories. It gives opportunity to students to be creative in thinking. It helps with learning because stories are easy to remember.It enhances intercultural understanding and Communication.

Theatre Club
English Association has launched The Theatre Club - 'The Playhouse' on 1st October 2019. Dr. Annie Kuriachan, Associate Professor, Women's Christian College was the Guest of honor. A rich cultural heritage play NAGAMANDALA a play with a Cobra by GirishKarnad was enacted by the students of the department of English.
Workshop
The department conducted a one-day workshop: 'Theatre Limelite' on 9th August 2018. The resource person was Prof. Dr. David Wesley. He trained the students on theatre techniques especially on the use of space, body-movements, gestures and voice. Students were involved in various activities during the workshop.
The Inter-collegiate Literary Elite Lore 2K18 was organized on 20th September 2018. Prof. I. A. Jayadoss from Loyola College presided over the function. 11 colleges participated from neighboring colleges. Events like Mono Act, Dumb charades, Poetry Writing and Essay Writing were conducted and the overall championship was bagged by D. G. Vaishnav College.
Seminar on 'The Importance of Communication Skills was conducted on 27th September 2018. The resource person, Ms. Savur, CEO of Parisar Asha Centre for Educational Research and Training, had an interactive session with the students and stressed on the importance on the four modes of Communication.
