The Department of Other Selected Languages organized a seminar on "Job Opportunities in the Banking Sector and Awareness of Fraud in Digital Platforms" on March 15, 2024. Guest Speaker Ms. Reetha Govindan, Senior Manager (Rajbhasha) at the Regional Office of Bank of Baroda, Chennai, enlightened the audience about opportunities available in the banking sector while emphasizing the importance of staying vigilant against cyber threats. Students were empowered to make informed career choices and navigate digital banking securely. 44 participants and winners of essay writing, poetry writing, drawing, and speech competitions in Hindi, English, and Tamil were honored with trophies and certificates sponsored by Bank of Baroda. The awards were presented by Principal Dr. R. Srikanth, Rev. Sr. Celine Maria, and Vice Principal Dr. S. Shalini Maher. Hearty appreciation is extended to the staff and student coordinators of the Department of OSL.

MGC celebrated International Mother Language Day on 21st February 2024  organised by the Department of Other Selected Languages & Tamil, Shift- I & II. Arutmaamani Dr.Revathi Robert, Associate Professor, Loyola College, Chennai presided over as the Chief Guest. Her captivating speech on the significance of Mother Tongue especially Tamil enthralled the students. Rev.Fr.Mathew Pallikunnel, Secretary gave his blessings and Dr.R.Srikanth, Principal felicitated the gathering. Students from the Department of Tamil and English actively participated in the program.

Department of OSL, has organized a library orientation activity for first year students (other language students) on 24/08/2022. The motive of this event is to explore our library and explained the importance of reading books to the students. Librarian Mr. Arun Prasath explained about the rules and regulations of our library.

DEPARTMENT ACTIVITY REPORT 2020-21

The Departments of English (Shift II) and Other Selected Languages (Shift I & II) in association with IQAC conducted an Online Webinar on 10th June 2020 for all the students of MGC. The resource person was Mr. T. Prashanth, an English Language Trainer and Social Worker. The resource person of the day took a productive session on Emotional Intelligence. He also elaborated on Self-Motivation, Self-regulation, fighting stress, etc.

Today a Reader, tomorrow a Leader” a webinar was organized on the 24th of April 2021. The major objective of the program was to give exposure to students - the advantages one can get from the habit of reading and how they can cultivate it in their daily routine to develop their own skills. The Resource person was the Professor of French, Mr.Mithun Raj. His presentation included Basics on Reading, Different methods of Reading, easy adapting methods and ideas to enrich the experiences.

DEPARTMENT ACTIVITY REPORT 2019-20

Department of OTHER SELECTED LANGUAGES had organised its Department Activity UMANG 2019, a SEMINAR on ‘AADHUNIK YUG VAA YUVA PEEDI ‘on 30th August 2019. Ms.GIRIJA RUBY ,M.A.,M.Phil.( Hindi),PGDHT, Dean of Extension Services, Head, Department of Hindi, Nazareth College of Arts & Science, Avadi, Chennai was invited as the Chief Guest and the Resource Person for the Seminar. She shared her expertise to the students of the role of youngsters in this modern world and challenges faced by them. She also threw light on the present scenario of the society and gave suggestions on how to overcome such challenges and become a successful person and a better citizen of India. The best Outstanding Students Vishnu and Sushmitha, II B.C.A., Shift-I who secured 90% in the University of Madras were awarded Cash Prize by Rev.Fr.Philip Pulipra, Secretary, Dr.M.Sivarajan, Principal, Ms.S.Ann Hepzibah Niraja, Vice Principal, Shift-I, Assistant Professor, Head of the Department. Prizes and Certificates were given to the participants of various competitions by Ms.Subashini, Vice Principal, Shift-II and Dr.T.Prema, Dean of Arts. 45 Hindi students from Shift-I & II participated and were benefitted.

DEPARTMENT ACTIVITY REPORT 2018-19

The Department of OSL organised a Seminar in Hindi for the first time in the history of M.G.C. on 28th September,2018. The Seminar was on ‘SIGNIFICANCE OF HINDI IN INFORMATION AND TECHNOLOGY’. The Resource Person, Ms.M. Koteshwari, Hindi Translator, O.C.F., Ministry of Defence, Government of India, Avadi, Chennai, threw light on the significance of Hindi language in the field of information & technology, media, literature, corporate etc.UMANG, 2018 was inaugurated by the Rev.Fr. Philip Pulipra, Secretary, Dr.K. Mohandoss, Principal, Dr.T. Prema, Dean of Humanities, Ms.T.N. Rekha, Dean of Sciences and Dr.V. Iyappan, Dean of Discipline in the presence of Hindi Students from all the Disciplines.

DEPARTMENT ACTIVITY REPORT 2017-18

Ms.Nikitha Singh, I year, Department of Computer Application and Ms. Febrishya, I year,  Department of Electronic Science bagged  the Third prize in Hindi Quiz competition, Kasouti 2018 held at Hindu College , avadi.

DEPARTMENT ACTIVITY REPORT 2016-17

BHAWANA and JACOB, Department of Commerce, Shift – I and DEEPALI .M, Department of Commerce, Shift – II, secured 4th, 23RD and 10th RANK at the UNIVERSITY OF MADRAS, April 2016 in HINDI respectively. Students participated in Intra – College Competitions like Essay Writing and Poetry Writing and won prizes.
