Let's congratulate the Head and Assistant Professors of Department of English, Shift II, for organizing a seminar today (13/9/23) in KCGSJ Hall. The resource person of the day, Dr. S. Thangam, Head & Assistant Professor, PG Department of English, Chellammal Women's College, elaborated on the topic " A Key to Success- A Thrust on Speaking Skills". Around 100 students attended the seminar and learnt about the nuances of improving the speaking skills. Students interacted enthusiastically with the resource person and made the seminar more meaningful. The resource person also distributed prizes to the winners of the competitions held by the Department recently.

The Department of English, Shift-I & II,in association with IQAC organized a guest lecture on 20-12-2022 via Google Meet. The Resource Person was Mrs. S. Thangam, Assistant Professor in English, Chellammal Women’s College, Chennai. Ms. S. SumaiyaSulthana was the Master of Ceremony. The Program began with a Prayer Song at 02:00 pm. Mrs.K.Y.Indhumathy Head of the Department of English, Shift-I delivered the welcome Speech and introduced the Chief Guest. It was followed by Resource person’s Lecture on ‘How to enhance your Communication Skills”.She elaborated on the Four Important Communication Skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing in detail. The lecture was mesmerizing, and the students were spell-bound by her session. The program concluded with the Vote of Thanks by Mrs.K.Subhashini , Head of the Department of English, Shift-II.

Department of English through its Association ELAN CLUB organised a guest lecture in association with IQAC on 13th September at 1:30 pm. The second year students from the departments of Corporate Secretaryship and Computer Science attended the session. The session started with the welcome address by Prof. K Subhashini, Vice Principal and Head, Department of English, Shift- II. The resource person of the day was Prof. K Prabu, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Shift-I. The topic of the session was “Stress Management Techniques”. The resource person spoke about the different techniques to overcome stress and to get concentration on studies. He shared his expertise with the students. The session ended successfully with the formal vote of thanks which was rendered by Prof. P Femina, Assistant Professor, Department of English.
The Department of English, Shift-II of Mar Gregorios College of Arts and Science organized a Guest Lecture on 27 August 2021 via online mode. The Resource Person was Mr.K. Prabu, Asst. Prof., Department of English, Shift-I, Mar Gregorios College of Arts and Science. The session began with Welcome Address by Ms. K. Subhashini, Vice-Principal and the Head of the Department of English, Shift-II. Then, the session was handed over to Mr. Prabhu. The topic of the session was “How to approach education in a right way”. The session went well with the students of two different streams II B.Com (CA) and II BCA. Mr. Prabhu spoke about the importance of education, and how the present scenario has challenged the teachers’ to adapt different pedagogy to impart education successfully to the students. Around 45 students enthusiastically participated in the session. His ebullient speech was really awesome. It was followed by Remarks and a Question- and -Answer Session. The session was concluded by Vote of Thanks by S. Habeebunisa Begum, Asst. Prof., Department of English, MGC.

The program started with an invocation song, followed by Tamilthai vazhthu and College Anthem. Mrs. C. S. Annaline invoked the blessings of God by a word of Prayer. Mrs. K. Subhashini, Head of the Department of English welcomed the Secretary, Principal, Chief Guest, Vice Principal, staff members and students, and also introduced the Chief Guest to the gathering. The Chief Guest for the program was
Ms. R. Yamini, Head, PG Department of Social Work.She has lots of credentials to her credit. She has been a Counsellor, Psychotherapist, Psychiatric Social Worker, Remedial Teacher and Project Coordinator for Child Welfare Committee. She has been presenting and participating in many Workshops, Conferences and Seminars. She is also a Mental Health Professional with over 4 years of experience in counselling, rehabilitation and training. Her topic of the day was on “Relaxation and Calming Oneself”. She enthralled the audience by her motivating and inspiring speech, in which she spoke on the four F’s – Family, Finance, Favourite Job [Passion], Fame. She elaborated on the importance of Internal Motivation, Purpose, Resilience, Optimism and Gratitude. Staff and students who attended the program learnt the importance of using positive words. The Program ended successfully with a National Anthem.

Arjun was an alumnus belonging to the first batch (2009-2012) in Shift II.He gave an exceptional speech on “Communication and Interview Presentation Skills”. He instructed the students about the importance of Communication.He made the session very lively by interacting with students and also made them involve in the session. He also spoke about how to present oneself in the interview. The session was very fruitful to the students. Honorable Secretary Rev. Fr. Philip Pulipra appreciated the chief guest for his inspiring speech. Mrs. Ann Hepzibah, Vice Principal of Shift I also applauded the speech of the Chief Guest and she conveyed to the audience that she felt proud for having an alumnus as the chief guest. Prizes were distributed to the winners in Paraphrasing, Logical Reasoning and Seminar. Judges for the Seminar were honored with mementos. Vote of Thanks was given by Mr. R. He also said that great communication is a powerful tool to make things happen – both in professional and private life. He stated that English is a Global Language.
