As a part of Silver Jubilee celebrations, The Dept. of B.C.A Shift-I of MGC Organized INTERCOLLEGIATE COMPETITION “TECHNOCLASH ‘22” on 18th August, 2022. The inauguration Ceremony was at 9:00AM and Venue at MAR IVANIOS HALL. The Chief Guest Mrs. Kalaiyarasi Ganapathi, Lead Programmer Analyst, Wipro, Chennai  proceeded the function. The On-stage events MIME, AD-ZAP, LETS CONNECT, AND 7 CLUES were conducted. The Off-Stage events WEB DESIGNING, PAPER PRESENTATION, CODING AND DEBUGGING AND POSTER DESIGNING also were conducted. 26 teams with 253 participants from various colleges have participated in the on stage and off stage events. Loyola College bagged the overall trophy. Principal MGC.

The Department of Computer Applications, Shift I, organized a seminar on Campus to Corporate - Expectation and Reality on 19.03.21 in Mar Ivanios  Hall at 12.00 noon. The students from Batch I - BCA Department were the direct audience. The  batch II students participated in the seminar through Google Meet.. The resource person was Mr.Sanoy Paulos, Senior Executive - Human Resource, PVR Cinemas Pvt. Ltd, Alumnus 2011-2014 batch. He explained, How to face the interview, what is group discussion and the expectation of the students and what to do, to achieve it. He also explained the reality of Corporate and how to survey there. Earlier the program was started with prayer, prayer song, welcome address and resource person introduction by our 3rd year students. Our Secretary and Vice Principal graced the occasion by facilitating the gathering. The selected outgoing students were honoured by certificate for their outstanding performance. The program ended at 1.20 pm  with a vote of thanks and National Anthem.

2020-21

The Department of Computer computer Applications, Shift I, organized a seminar on Character Formation on 12.03.21 in Mar Gregorios Conference Hall at 11am. The students from 3rd BCA were the direct audience. The 2nd and 1st year students have participated in the seminar through Google Meet.. The resource person was Mrs.Nirmala Devaraj, former retired Principal of Sri. Meenakshi Arts  College for Women, Madurai. She explained the changes in students' growth from their childhood to teenage.  She also explained how to interact with parents, staff and the society. Through useful quotes, she explained how to shape a student's character. Earlier the program was started with prayer, prayer song, welcome address and resource person introduction by our 3rd year students. Our Secretary and Principal Graced the occasion by facilitating the gathering. The program ended at 12 noon with a vote of thanks and National Anthem.

2020-21

Mar Gregorios College of Arts & Science, Department of Computer Applications, Shift I, has signed in MOU with Elysium Academy for the Conduct of Workshop and Seminar for the benefit and academic growth of the Students of Computer Science and Computer Application Departments for one Year on 19th March 2021. In the continuation of the MOU the Elysium Academy has accepted to conduct an induction Webinar on Web Development for the Computer Application Department Students.

Due to vast spread of Covid 19, second wave in Chennai, Mar Gregorios College of Arts & Science in association with public health Department, Zone -11 of Greater Chennai Corporation, organized an exclusive Covid 19 Free Vaccination Camp on 17.04.21 from 9.00am to 3.00pm in the College premises. Students' Parents, Relatives, Neighbors and Public in and around Mogappair West, aged above 45 were vaccinated. Around 67 persons were registered through class teachers and Google form. On Friday, 16th April, MGC Admission promotion team made announcement in the nearby area through Auto. So that, 17 persons have come forward for vaccination. In order to create awareness, Covid 19 prevention kit was distributed by the MGC admission promotion team to the vaccinated people.

2019-20

The FDP on “Problem solving Using Python” was organised by the Department of Computer Applications for all the Computer Science and Computer Applications staff of Both Shifts. This FDP was conducted at on 7th February 2020, around 20 staff members have participated. The Workshop was presented as two interesting sessions by the resource person Mr. ChandiraSekaran .P, Project Lead, Dynamiq Consultancy, Chennai.

The workshop titled “Machine Learning with Python Theory” was organized on 24th Jan 2020 by the department. The Workshop was presented as two interesting sessions namely Python Basics and Python Basics by the resource persons by Mr.ChandiraSekaran.P, Project Lead and by Mr. ChandiraSekaran.P, Project LeadfromDynamiq Consultancy, Chennai respectively.

A workshop entitled “Python Theory & its Applications” an Intercollegiate Workshop was organized by the Department in association with Computer Society of India on 6th December 2019. Sessions and guests were Python Basics by Mr. Prakash Subramanian, Research Assistant, Machine Learning using Python by Mr.Rajesh, Research Assistant and Data Visualization by Dr. Shobana, Research Assistant.

The Department function “TECHNOCLASH 2019” was held on 22nd August 2019. The Chief Guest was Mr. S. Kalidas, Technical Head, IFANDFOR ENDEAVOUR which was followed by a seminar on IoT.

The Department initiated an Add on Course on Android Application Development for the interested students of MGC. MOU has been established between MGC & IFANDFOR ENDEAVOUR computer centre for the conduct of add on course. The Class began with 29 students and started from 22nd July 2019.

Memorandum of Understanding was established between Computer Application department and IFANDFOREVER Computer Training Institute for the Conduct of Add on Course Android Application Development from 22nd July 2019. Around 29 students were joined and completed their course

Workshop on Android App Development was held on 28th June 2019.   This program was conducted as an induction program to start an Add on Course on Android App Development for the benefit of students of MGC. Mr. S. Kalidas, Technical Head, IFANDFOR ENDEAVUORS was the resource person.

2018-19

The Department of Computer Application of both shifts had organized a one day National Seminar on Recent Trends in Computational Research on 25th January 2019. The seminar began with the prayer song. Mrs.A.Hency Juliet, Head of the Department delivered the welcome speech. Secretary Rev.Fr. Philip Pulipra, Principal Dr.K.Mohandoss, Vice Principal Mrs.S. Ann Hepzibah Niraja and Secretary to Cardinal Rev.Fr.Antony felicitated the organizers and the participants. The Resource person Dr. T. Velmurugan, Associate Professor, PG and Research Department of Computer Science, Vaishnav College, Chennai presented lectures on the topics, Recent Research Areas in Computer Science, Mathematical Models for the Computational Research, and the intellectual writing of Thesis.

            Totally 113 Participants were registered and benefitted, among them 5 participants from other states. The Valedictory ceremony was conducted at 3:00pm in the presence of Secretary and Principal and the certificates were distributed to the participants. The College Management was thanked for the support extended to this National Seminar.

The Department of Computer Application had organized a seminar on Personality Enrichment on 3rd December 2018 between 9:30 am and 1:00 pm in the Mar Gregorios Conference Hall for II BCA and III BCA students. The Program started with a prayer by Mrs. Hency Juliet, Head of the Department.  The Resource person, an alumnus Mr.Joney Brewatsan, Risk Analyst, Ford Company motivated the students through various activities and also conducted mock interview for the 3rd year students.

The Department of Computer Application had organized a Workshop on MATLAB under the Faculty Development Programme, as a NAAC requirement for the betterment of Computer Science and Computer Application Staff of Both shifts of MGC on 3rd November 2018 between 9:00am and 3:00pm in the Computer Lab. The Program started with a prayer by Dr.K.Mohandoss, Principal and Rev.Fr. Philip Pulipra, Secretary inaugurated workshop.  The Vice Principal Mrs. Ann Hephzibah introduced the Resource Person Mr. Kalidas .

Department Of Computer Application, Shift – I conducted workshop on Android Application Development for final year students on 29th August 2018. Mr. Jenno and his team from Excel Corp demonstrated and created a new application using Android Studio. They also detailed the career opportunities in the field of Application Development.

Department of Computer Applications organized an Add on Course on Python in association with ALB Computer Training Institute. Around 40 students have been joined.

The Course duration is 48 hours. At the end of the course examination was conducted and the certificates were distributed.

Department of Computer Application has released a magazine TECHNOCLASH 2018 on 20th August 2018 during the Department program. All the students of BCA contributed their articles drawings. We must thank our Secretary, Principal, Vice Principal and all the HODs of both shifts for their valuable message and support towards the release of magazine. On the dame day we have launched our department website, which was designed by Rev.Fr. John Peter, Asst. Professor, Department of Social Work.

2018-19

Department Of Computer Application – Shift I conducted Inter-Collegiate Festival TECHNOCLASH ’18 on 20.08.2018 in the New Auditorium. The Chief Guest on the day was Mr. Senthil Anand, KRDS India. The various Events conducted were  Paper Presentation, Just- a-minute, Connections, Debugging, Junk Art and Google It. Totally  19 Colleges from Chennai city participated in the events. Among them Loyola College won the Overall Championship.

2018-19

On 26th June 2018, the final year students of Computer Application had visited the MARITIME ACADEMY, PONDICHERRY, to get essential knowledge about marine. MARIETIME Academy, achieved their best place in developing quality Mariners in the last 7 years. This institute is highly involved in dealing with more practical subjects by experienced Mariners. The Students are divided into two teams, both teams were led by the college staff and highly supervised by the MARIETIME Academy Supervisors. The students were learnt the usage of off-shore Mariners’ equipments, Divers equipments, On-shore subjects, and soft skill required for life, Fire Accidents and the ways to extinguish them. The live view of Life Boat and Diver’s Practical Sessions impressed all.

2018-19

Department of Computer Application of shift I & II had organized an one day workshop on “Industrial Expectations”, for the final year students on 20th July 2018. Resource person Mr. Hariharan Prabhaharan, PrimeEd Tutors, a unit of PrimeEdEn Groups, highlighted the area of knowledge transformation, delivery and awareness to enhance the students’ ability to meet out their career expectations in a better way.

List of topics covered: Mind Brain Correspondence issues, Getting out of the comfort zone, Communication skills, Intelligence and Aptitude, Knowledge beyond textbooks, Positive approach, Updated with the latest trends and Ambitious.

On Mother Teresa Birthday 26th August 2017, our department students and staff had visited and helped the Vasantham Mentally Challenged students Home by donating cash for their food.

Department of Computer Applications organized an inter school quiz competition. For Inter School Quiz Competitions, two teams per school was invited.  SCHRAM ACADEMY, Valliammal Mat. Hr. Sec. School, SBIOA Model Mat. Hr. Sec. School, Sacred Hear Mat. Hr. Sec. School are participated in the inter School Quiz Competition. The event was conducted in three rounds. Scram Academy Won the Winner and the Runner Shield.

By the Grace of Lord Almighty Jesus Christ, Department of Computer Application conducted its Department function “TECHNOCLASH 2017” on 24th August 2017 in New Auditorium at 9.20 am. Mr. Leonard, Head Department of Business Administration Started the Events with Prayer. On Stage Events Power Point Presentation, Dum Charades, Ad-Zap and Off Stage Events Debugging, Wealth out of waste, Collage was conducted as intra department competitions.

Workshop on WEB & JAVA APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT was organized by Mr.K.Khaja Mohideen, Asst. Prof., Aalim Muhammed Salegh College of Engineering to our III BCA Students on 03-02-2017.

Department of Computer Application (Shift-I) and Department of Computer Science (Shift-II) conducted its function “TECHNOCLASH’16” on 19th September 2016 in Mar Ivanios Hall  at 9.30am. Special Invitee for the valedictory function was our Honorable Principal Dr.K.Mohandoss.

Events like Paper Presentation, Web Designing, Ad_Zap, Dumcharades, Collage, and Wealth out of Waste, Brain Teaser and Quiz were conducted from 9.30am to 12.00 noon. The valedictory session started with prayer song by department choir, followed by short prayer. Department Staff Ms.S.V.Rajiga welcomed the gathering. Chief Guest and Dignitaries were honored by the Departments with Mementos.

2015-16

By the Grace of Lord Almighty Jesus Christ, The Department of Computer Application organized a “Workshop and Seminar” on 25/09/2015, Friday. Our department students presented papers in recent technologies. Our Department Alumni Mr. V. Sathish, Software Engineer, Photon Infotech, conducted “Workshop on Android” systems in Computer Lab. Seminar on “Personality Development” conducted in AV room by our Department Alumni Mr. J. Jony Brewatson, Risk Analyst, Ford Motor Private Limited. Through this workshop and seminar students are benefited.

The Department of Computer applications had conducted an intercollegiate festival named ‘TECNOCLASH-15’on January 9th 2015.Mr.Raja Murugan (Recruitment Manager in HCL technologies) inaugurated the event by releasing a special sovenior ‘TECHNOCLASH-15’ department magazine.15 colleges in and around Chennai actively participated among St. John’s College of Arts and Science have won the overall Championship.

2021-2022

Faculty Exchange Programme

The Department of Computer Applications has taken initiatives to implement the collaborative activity in Association with Shri Shankarlal Sundarbai Shasun Jain College for Women, T.Nagar by exchanging the staff.   For the effective implementation of Faculty Exchange Programme, both colleges agreed to sign in the Memorandom of Understanding. MoU between two colleges was established on 16th November 2021.

Syllabus has been developed by Dr. M. Anita Indu, Head, Department of Computer Applications (Shift-1), Shri Shankarlal Sundarbai Shasun Jain college, T. Nagar, Chennai 17. She had taken the class for II BCA students of MGC on the topic Writing Effective Project Proposal from 29th November 2021 to 4th December 2021. She demonstrated simple project using Android app Development tool also gave task to students to prepare an app and upload the same in Google play store. Around 92, II BCA students from our college has benefited through this faculty exchange programme. Thus Mar Gregorios College Students got the new idea and knowledge from the staff of Shri Shankarlal Sundarbai Shasun Jain College.

Similarly Dr.A.Hency Juliet, Head of the Dept. and Dr.B.Hemalatha, Assistant Professor of Department of Computer Applications, Mar Gregorios College of Arts & Science Block No.8, College Road, Mogappair West, Chennai 37 had taken classes for II BCA students of Shri Shankarlal Sundarbai Shasun Jain College for Women, T.Nagar, Chennai 17 on the topic Writing Effective Project proposal from 29th November 2021 to 4th December 2021. Students from Shri Shankarlal Sundarbai Shasun Jain College got new idea and knowledge on project from the staff of Mar Gregorios College of Arts & Science.


Training on Employability and Entrepreneurship

The Department of Computer Applications, Shift I, organized an Induction Programme - Training on Employability and Entrepreneurship on 21st September 2021 at KCG SJ Mini Conference Hall from 12.00 noon to 1.00pm.Prof.A.Vijayakumar, Chief Mentor, Founder & President, INDIA TRUST was the resource person. He explained the need for employability and how to become an Entrepreneur


Web App Development

The Department of Computer Applications, Shift I, organized an Induction Programme on Progressive Web App Development using the tool Angular, Ionic and Firebase on 17th September 2021 at KCG SJ Mini Conference Hall from 12.00 noon to 1.00pm. Mr.S.Kalidas, Founder, and Director of IFANDFOR ENDEAVOURS was the resource person.The II BCA & III BCA students have participated in the programme and the I BCA students attended the programme virtually. Around 150 students participated in the Induction Programme.


Certificate Course

Department of Computer Applications has taken an initiative to organize a Certificate Course on Office Automation for the welfare of Mar Gregorios College Students. Around 93 students from the various departments of shift-1 registered for the course. The Course duration is 30 hours.The inauguration of the course was started on 1 st September 2021 with the opening prayer by Mrs. Ann Hepzibah Niraja S, Assistant Professor, Department of OSL, which was followed by the welcome address by Dr.B.Hemalatha. The students were instructed to utilize the opportunity. The importance of the Certificate course was explained by Mrs.Ann Hepzibah Niraja S.


International FacultyDevelopment Programme

The Department of Computer Applications organized a One Week International FacultyDevelopment Programme on Transformation to New Normal Technique from 9 th August 2021to 14 th August 2021. The resource persons were invited from various Institutions and Industry toshare their expertise on New Normal Techniques.


SERIES OF GUEST LECTURER PROGRAMME FOR 1st and 2nd BCA

Department of Computer Applications, Shift I, organized a series of Guest Lecture Programme for the benefit of our II BCA and III BCA Students on their 3rd and 5th  -semester subjects through Google Meet, from 31st August 2021 to 6th September 2021.  The topics of the Guest Lecture were working with Graphics in Visual Basic, SQL Query, Decision Making, Branching and Looping Statements, Trees in Data Structures, Planning and Organizational Structure, Computer Organizations, Post Covid Precautions and Environmental Studies with the help of the resource persons Dr.T. S. Umamaheswari., Head, Department of Computer Applications, J.H.A Agarsen College, Madhavaram, Dr.A. Sudha Ramkumar Head, Associate Professors, Department of Computer Science, Sri Kanyaga Parameswari Arts and Science College for Women, Dr.U.Latha Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Applications, Dwaraka Doss Goverdhan Doss Vaishnav College, Dr.S.JAYACHANDRAN, Assistant Professor,  Department of Computer Applications SRMIST –Ramapuram Campus, Chennai, Dr.S.Gayathri, Department of Computer Science, Dwaraka Doss Goverdhan Doss Vaishnav College, Rev.Fr.Dr.John Peter, Dean MSW, Prof.Kiruthika, Assistant Professor, Sri Krishnaswamy College for Women respectively.

All the students actively participated in the Guest Lecture Programme. Through Power point presentation the concepts are well explained. The session was interactive. After the Guest Lecture Programme, the feedback was collected from the students. The students got good exposure and new idea through this Guest Lecture Programme.


Workshop

Workshop on Android App Development was held on 28th June 2019.   This program was conducted as an induction program to start an Add on Course on Android App Development for the benefit of students of MGC. Mr. S. Kalidas, Technical Head, IFANDFOR ENDEAVUORS was the resource person.


Add on course with MOU

The Department initiated an Add on Course on Android Application Development for the interested students of MGC. MOU has bee established between MGC & Ifandforever computer centre for the conduct of add on course.The Class began with 29 students and started from 22nd July 2019.


SEMINAR ON IOT - TECHNOCLASH 2019

The Department function “TECHNOCLASH 2019” was held on 22nd August 2019. The Chief Guest was Mr. S. Kalidas, Technical Head, IFANDFOR Endeavour which was followed by a seminar on IoT.


WORKSHOP IN ASSOCIATION WITH COMPUTER SOCIETY OF INDIA

A workshop entitled “Python Theory & its Applications” an Intercollegiate Workshop was organized by the Department in association with Computer Society of India on 6th December 2019. Sessions and guests were Python Basics by Mr. Prakash Subramanian, Research Assistant, Machine Learning using Python by Mr.Rajesh, Research Assistant and Data Visualization by Dr. Shobana, Research Assistant.


WORKSHOP

The workshop titled “Machine Learning with Python Theory” was organized on 24th Jan 2020 by the department. The Workshop was presented as two interesting sessions namely Python Basics and Python Basics by the resource persons by Mr.ChandiraSekaran.P, Project Lead and by Mr. ChandiraSekaran.P, Project LeadfromDynamiq Consultancy, Chennai respectively.


FDP on problem  solving using python

The FDP on “Problem solving Using Python” was organised by the Department of Computer Applications for all the Computer Science and Computer Applications staff of Both Shifts. This FDP was conducted at on 7th February 2020, around 20 staff members have participated. The Workshop was presented as two interesting sessions by the resource person Mr. ChandiraSekaran .P, Project Lead, Dynamiq Consultancy, Chennai.


Overall Championship

The Department of Computer Application Shift I won the  Overall Championship in the Intercollegiate Event "Techno Fest 2020" Organized by Thiruthangal Nadar College.They also won the overall Runner Up Trophy in the  Intercollegiate event held in Patrician college on 25th February 2020.The Computer Application department of Both Shift I & II, have won the overall Runner Up Trophy in the Intercollegiate event held in D.G. Vaishnav College.Our College Won the overall Runner up Trophy in the Intercollegiate event held in the Saveetha School of Management.

DEPT. OF COMPUTER APPLICATION - WORKSHOP ON ANDROID APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT

Department Of Computer Application, Shift – I conducted workshop on Android Application Development for final year students on 29th August 2018. Mr. Jenno and his team from Excel Corp demonstrated and created a new application using Android Studio. They also detailed the career opportunities in the field of Application Development.


FDP AND WORKSHOP ON MATLAB – 3rd NOVEMBER 2018

            The Department of Computer Application had organized a Workshop on MATLAB under the Faculty Development Programme, as a NAAC requirement for the betterment of Computer Science and Computer Application Staff of Both shifts of MGC on 3rd November 2018 between 9:00am and 3:00pm in the Computer Lab. The Program started with a prayer by Dr.K.Mohandoss, Principal and Rev.Fr. Philip Pulipra, Secretary inaugurated workshop.  The Vice Principal Mrs. Ann Hephzibah introduced the Resource Person Mr. Kalidas and he dealt with topics such as

            The Department of Computer Application had organized a seminar on Personality Enrichment on 3rd December 2018 between 9:30 am and 1:00 pm in the Mar Gregorios Conference Hall for II BCA and III BCA students. The Program started with a prayer by Mrs. Hency Juliet, Head of the Department.  The Resource person, an alumnus Mr.Joney Brewatsan, Risk Analyst, Ford Company motivated the students through various activities and also conducted mock interview for the 3rd year students.


NATIONAL SEMINAR ON RECENT TRENDS IN COMPUTATIONAL RESEARCH

            The Department of Computer Application of both shifts had organized a one day National Seminar on Recent Trends in Computational Research on 25th January 2019. The seminar began with the prayer song. Mrs.A.Hency Juliet, Head of the Department delivered the welcome speech. Secretary Rev.Fr. Philip Pulipra, Principal Dr.K.Mohandoss, Vice Principal Mrs.S. Ann Hepzibah Niraja and Secretary to Cardinal Rev.Fr.Antony felicitated the organizers and the participants. The Resource person Dr. T. Velmurugan, Associate Professor, PG and Research Department of Computer Science, Vaishnav College, Chennai presented lectures on the topics, Recent Research Areas in Computer Science, Mathematical Models for the Computational Research, and the intellectual writing of Thesis. Totally 113 Participants were registered and benefitted, among them 5 participants from other states. The Valedictory ceremony was conducted at 3:00pm in the presence of Secretary and Principal and the certificates were distributed to the participants. The College Management was thanked for the support extended to this National Seminar.

Compete from Home an online event

1-minute video presentation competition during Covid-19 Lockdown Period organized by Mar Gregorios College of Arts & Science,  Department of Computer Applications Shift - 1. The title for the competition was "Compete From Home". Total Number of Participants: 83. Total Number of Institutions: 36 from 14 Different Cities.

The Department of Computer Application had organized a National level Faculty Development Webinar on Effective online  Teaching & Learning Tools on 13th May 2020. Initially 856 nembers have registered in a day.  Out of which 83 members from other state. One from other Country. The invite to attend the meeting has been sent to first 350 registered candidates.             The Webinar is entirely about the fundamentals, features, benefits and advantages on “Hadoop Architecture”. During the presentation, the resource person also explained its related Software packages. The information delivered by the Resource person was highly informative and entirely new concept was appreciated by the students.There are nearly 65 students actively participated in the webinar. The participants received their e-certificate by filling up their feedback forms through online at the end of the program.
